Fungi and pests are one of the main problems that can affect your plants. While there are many chemically manufactured products specifically for this task, they are much more aggressive than any homemade fungicide that you can easily make at home, such as this one using bicarbonate of soda that we will teach you below.
So, if you are looking for a natural insecticide or fungicide to get rid of insect pests and fungi, we will show you how to make it and how to use it.

CREATE A NATURAL FUNGICIDE AND INSECTICIDE

Many people always prefer homemade natural options over any chemical product that can be bought at the supermarket. Against fungal pests, a natural product that you surely have at home is very effective: bicarbonate of soda.
This product is highly effective for many other household tasks and has various benefits in gardening, including its own formula that protects the environment. Similarly, bicarbonate of soda will be very useful for making your own natural fungicide without affecting and harming the life of your plants.

WHY ARE FUNGI DANGEROUS FOR YOUR GARDEN?

Fungi feed on the energy of the plants they live on, meaning that as the fungus grows and strengthens, your plant wilts more and more.
If you suspect that your plant may be infested with fungi – usually indicated by white spots on its leaves – it’s time to block their reproduction before it’s too late.

HOW TO APPLY TO PLANTS

You have certainly used bicarbonate of soda because it is a great natural antacid. Well, it is this same function that will act as a fungicide and help you get rid of pests in your garden once and for all.
This is because fungi, although they are species that can live in acidic environments, cannot survive in the high acidity that bicarbonate of soda presents. Thus, bicarbonate of soda acts as a poison against the microorganisms that live on our plants.

HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE FUNGICIDE AND INSECTICIDE

To make it, you only need three easy, cheap, and accessible ingredients that everyone usually has at home. Obviously, the quantities will depend on the size and extent of the infestation and the type of microorganism that has taken root in our plants, but in general, it will be enough to use:

  • One teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda
  • One teaspoon of natural neutral soap
  • One liter of water

It is very important that the soap we use is natural and neutral, as the composition of most chemical soaps can counteract the effect we want to achieve with the bicarbonate.
That being said, mix all the ingredients in the water and wait for them to dissolve. Then, pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray all the plants (indoors and outdoors) that have fungi and are infected. Very easy and simple!

If the fungi have reached the roots of the plants, spray this mixture directly into the soil so that it reaches the interior of the earth and kills the species of fungus that is attacking your plant. This will prevent the fungus from spreading throughout the plant, and you will have a healthy garden again.
