After years of minimalism dominating the design world, maximalist design is back. From bold wall murals to incorporating various patterns, this style is a foolproof way to add vibrant touches of personality to your space.

Recently, a design trend has emerged in the maximalist space: color drenching, where you paint all the spaces of an entire room with the same color. The sky is truly the limit here – applying the same shade to walls, ceiling, door, wood, shelves, and so on.

As TikToker @heygranty explains in a recent video, the practice has a “calming effect.”

As he says, “You’ve chosen a fun color for the wall. Why not paint the door?”

The UK-based paint company Lick even shared a video on Instagram about the trend, in which their director of interior design, Tash Bradley, explains the benefits of color drenching in a home.

“This completely opens up the space,” says Bradley. “You’re not drawn to the corners of the room. It’s much more contemporary, and what it does is make your furniture the focal point.”

Of course, having overly bright and intense colors can make the space overstimulating or, worse, claustrophobic. That’s why choosing the right tone for you makes a big difference when it comes to color drenching.

“It’s important to choose colors that speak to you, that make you feel happy and energized or calm and serene,” recently said Ruth Mottershead, creative director of the paint company Little Greene, to Sheer Luxe. “South-facing rooms can make colors warmer and more intense, while north-facing rooms can make colors cooler.”
